Adult Education

In the Anglican tradition, theological reflection draws on three primary sources: scripture, tradition and reason. Study, reflection and candid discussion are therefore practiced here; searching questions are therefore welcomed here. Recognizing that what we believe about God directly affects how we relate to God, St. John’s offers Adult education in a variety of venues.

Sundays at 9:00 a.m. we conduct an adult Bible study, combining literary, theological and devotional readings of a biblical text.

Sundays at 11:30 a.m. Adult Education this year will be film-based. Using the Nooma curriculum developed by Rob Bell, members of this class will watch a short (12-15 minute) DVD and then respond to its content, verbal and visual, enjoying an open discussion of how it relates to the Gospel. This curriculum is distinguished by the unusual, sometimes provocative angles from which it approaches the scriptures, faith and life.

Each unit is discrete and you need not attend every week to be able to follow the program. For  more information, talk to Fr. Steve (sschlossberg@stjohnstroy.org).

Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m. we conduct an adult Bible study.

Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. St. John’s hosts a community Bible study, complementing the Daughters of the King’s Bread Ministry.

Every Advent and Lent, St. John’s hosts a weekly Candlelight Meditation service, 6:00-7:00 p.m.
