A Concert of Gratitude for Ted Phillips
1950 - 2024
After playing more than a thousand liturgies over almost 20 years, our organist and music director Ted Phillips announced his retirement this last Pentecost Sunday, May 19. We had already planned a concert to honor him when we learned he passed away September 12. Sad as this news is, we continue our plans for this concert to honor him (which will be in addition to any memorial service yet to be planned).
So, we invite you to join us Sunday afternoon, October 6th, at 3 pm for a concert and reception in gratitude for Ted’s faithful service to St. John's Episcopal Church, 146 1st Street, Troy, New York. It can no longer be the surprise we'd planned for Ted, but we will be premiering a new composition by composer Alfred Fedak that we commissioned, a choral and congregational anthem of Ted’s favorite hymn: “He who would valiant be.”
Daniel Romero, Organist and Choirmaster at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church in Albany will lead our program, including pieces by J. S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Herbert Howells, and Austin Lovelace, plus selections from additional guest artists who want to honor Ted's memory. Please do come! There is ample parking, as well as a handicapped entrance off Liberty Street.
