Michael Jewett
Dates
November 12, 1960 - July 14, 2025Obituary
Michael "Mike" Jewett died peacefully on July 14, 2025. He left an indelible mark on the lives he touched.
Michael received a GED from the Educational Opportunity Center in Troy, New York. He cultivated a passion for the culinary arts, which led him to earn an advanced certificate in this field. His flair for flavor was recognized with an honorable mention at the Saint John's Episcopal Church "Heartburn for Haiti" Chili Cookoff, a testament to his skill and inventive spirit in the kitchen.
Michael's dedication to his community shone brightly through his involvement with Saint John's. As a devout member, he served as an acolyte, attended services faithfully, and was a familiar face at midweek events. His welcoming nature was magnetic, drawing friends and strangers alike into the church's ministries, and his participation in coffee hour—often as a gracious host—was a highlight for many.
Creativity flowed through Mike's veins, manifesting in lovely art pieces that captured the beauty of landscapes, the tranquility of still life, and the delicate essence of flowers. His artistic talents were celebrated annually at the Roarke Center art shows at the Newman Center at RPI, where his works were a source of inspiration and admiration.
Michael will be fondly remembered by his loving sister, Emily Amatuccio, and brother, Joseph Garceau, as a beacon of creativity, faith, and gentleness. His legacy is one of kindness, respect, and the ability to engage with others in a way that made each person feel seen and valued.
As we celebrate Michael's life, we are reminded of the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Michael embodied this sentiment, succeeding in enriching the world and leaving it a more beautiful place.
In honor of Michael's life, let us carry forward the light he brought into the world. Let his memory inspire us to approach others with the same courtesy and warmth he showed effortlessly. Let us be moved by his faith-filled nature to nurture our own spiritual connections and communities. And let us embrace our creative impulses, as he did, to share the beauty we see with those around us.
Michael Jewett's life was one of genuine connection and creative expression. He painted his world with the gentle strokes of his kind nature and the vibrant colors of his art and culinary delights. As we say farewell to Michael, we do so with gratitude for the lessons he imparted and the love he shared so freely. His spirit, like his art, will remain with us always, a reminder of the immeasurable impact one life can have.
